It's been a while since I last gave an update on what's happening here at Low Carbon Energy Centre, I can assure you we haven't been idle.

Since the success of our Open Day back in June we literally haven't stopped, here's some of the things the team have been up to:

Lift and Shift – a brilliant piece of equipment recently purchased – this ‘big boys toy’ carries very heavy things, 400 to 500 kg in weight such as our wood burning stoves, up and down stairs.  It’s a real clever bit of kit that will help to protect our lads’ backs.

Exhibition trailer – we’ve purchased our very own trailer and as you can see from the picture it looks just like any other, however within 4 weeks it will be magically transformed to showcase 3 lit wood burners plus 2 additional stoves ready for the Dorset Show (see details below). Robin is scheduled to begin the project next week.

There’s talk of us producing some funky Low Carbon Energy Centre fire mitts currently at the prototype stage, they are intended to be a recycled product made from waste leather and I’m told they will be unique to us (maybe they’ll have six fingers, who knows).

Dorset Show – the weekend of the 1st and 2nd September we've arranged an exhibition stand with 2 tents and our new wood burners on wheels exhibition trailer.  Our team will be on hand to offer advice and information on all our various technologies plus you’ll be able to pick up brochures and purchase companion sets, fireside accessories, packs of firelighters, stove glass cleaner and log BBQ’s etc.

Commercial Day – 15th September, the businesses at Riverside Business Park will be holding an exhibition in Wimborne Square.

Diwali the Festival of Light – This is currently only in the planning stages but hopefully will be held on the 16th & 17th November in Wimborne Square.  If it goes ahead it will be one of only 3 festivals of its kind being held in the UK. There's talk of a banquet in a marquee; local school children Diwali dancing and making candle holders; dance troops from London on the Saturday and we’ll be supplying fire pits and giving away tea lights to light in the evening.

From the 20th June - Pictures from our Open Day

Thursday, 21 June 2012

Wow what a fantastic open day we had - if you came along yesterday then you’ll know how successful it was.  It was a real team effort from everyone here at Low Carbon Energy Centre and I have to say that all the leg work really did pay off.  We had such a great turnout and everyone enjoyed themselves so a “big thank you” to all who came along.

A special thanks to our suppliers who turned up to support us - Alistair Beatie - Robey’s; Paul Davies - Arada; Chris Whiteford – Mitsubishi Ecodan;  Jacqui Wallace - Morso; Lee Spencer – Specflue and Andy McGloin – HAWI UK .

The cake went down so well that we didn’t have any left for us so Sarah picked one up just for us today.  The Indian food from The Red Fort was quite a hit that was all eaten up too.

With the 6 fires going it was hot stuff here and the marshmallows toasted over the fire pit went down a storm.

We even had an unexpected visitor, Doris a great old lady who happened to stumble across us whilst searching for the nearest bus stop to get her back to Bournemouth – we made her very welcome with an orange juice, nibbles and a seat in the sun for a while before Ross from House Magazine kindly gave her a lift back to her doorstep in Bournemouth (in none less than his 2 seater Nissan 350Z).

Our Boss Andy was a bit worse for wear this morning sporting a slight hang over – I have to say we are all a bit jaded today but happy and relieved that it all went well.

Holly our Photographer will be passing on some photo’s soon so I’ll make a few posts when we get those.

Sarah is still informing people of their winnings on the raffle – that all went down really well and I did keep having to tell people that yes it was free.  Thank you to all the suppliers and local businesses who contributed towards it.

Thank you to all involved - regards for now.

1 day to go.

Whoops missed a post yesterday, we've been mad busy getting everything sorted - there's a real buzz about the place.

Reminder e-mails are going out right this second.

The cake has been collected and Caroline has decorated it beautifully.

Our Photographer, Holly is booked - she'll be poping in around 5 p.m. for a couple of hours.

Big tick in the box for the red wine. Richard took over the duty of doing tasting at the weekend.

Sarah's finished making the signs for the Prize Draw and Jodie has completed all the hearth signs.

Powerpoint slideshows for Low Carbon Energy Centre and A & A King are ready.

We're almost there, tomorrow morning should be fun all we'll need to do is position and work out how to hold down the tents to the tarmac outside but that's a job for the boys.

Oop's forgot, Sarah is desperate for another fridge. Can't give them warm wine!!! Off to buy flowers and all the munchies early tomorrow.

Rich is running around  with a van full of logs, tables, chairs and umbrellas.

6 days to go!

Everything is coming together nicely!  Caroline and Richard successfully returned with morning with some great knickknacks and wall art for the showroom and our Robin's been in already to fix those up. The showroom really does look fantastic with all the bits and bobs to set everything off.

Andy’s popped in to see all our fellow business neighbours here at Riverside Business Park to pass on Invitations to the Open Day and received a very warm reception.

I asked Andy about the wine tasting last night and he stated “on balance it was best to try the red at the weekend” – so I guess they’ll be having a little tipple tonight.

We’ve had a great response to the Open Day so far and we’re really looking forward to seeing you all on the day.

7 days to go!
Well Andy and Angie tasted the white wine and his comment - “it was blooming good!”.  It’s Orca Bay a New Zealand Sauvignon.  He tells me they’ll be trying out the red tonight and that’s, Sunrise a Chilean Merlot. (Perks of being the bosses)!

Sarah and Jodie donned their marigolds and cleaning clothes yesterday to give everything in the showroom a super deep clean and clear the kitchen ready for the day.  They really have gone to town and everything is really fresh and sparkling here.  They’re still at it today Sarah said “she’s making the most of getting a workout and being paid for it” however she is munching on some random Cadbury’s chocolate covered popcorn.  Sarah’s having a little argument with the Dyson hoover she just stated “it’s like marmite your either love it or hate it and I don’t like it” oh dear.

Robin’s just turned up to do some snagging works.

Richard went out to buy some bits and bobs for the finishing touches but unfortunately came back empty handed as he was unsure of our fussy girl’s tastes. Caroline’s arranged a helping hand and they’ll be out again tomorrow in search of some wall art, a rug for the Charnwood section and some dressing items.

Caroline’s begun putting together the handouts which will be full of information about us and what we do.

More raffle tickets have been ordered for the free prize draw (everyone will get 5 tickets each when they arrive at the door)

The balloons and helium have arrived – no doubt some hilarity to come when those go together!

The cake has been ordered and I’ll be picking that up at the weekend. Yummy!
